Dr. Robert J. Isaacson joined the VCU School of Dentistry as chair of the Department of Orthodontics in 1987 and remained in that position until 2000. Before coming to VCU, he chaired the orthodontic departments at the University of Minnesota (1965-1977) and the University of California at San Francisco (1977-1987). Dr. Isaacson pioneered the movement modeling orthodontic residency programs on private practice. The purpose was to give residents a practical experience that they could apply directly to their clinical practices after graduation.
Dr. Steven J. Lindauer joined the faculty of the VCU Department of Orthodontics as an Assistant Professor in 1989 after graduating from the University of Connecticut orthodontic program. In 1999, he was promoted to full Professor and became Chair of the Department in 2000 when Dr. Isaacson retired. Dr. Lindauer has served as Executive Secretary of the Orthodontic Foundation since 1997. He is a past-President of the North Atlantic Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontists since 2002. He currently serves as the Editor of The Angle Orthodontist.
